As a photographer, you get so caught up taking photos of everyone else, that often times you realize you don’t have any images of your own family. So I decided it was time for a shoot with my parents, sister, niece & nephew.

As a photographer, you get so caught up taking photos of everyone else, that often times you realize you don’t have any images of your own family. So I decided it was time for a shoot with my parents, sister, niece & nephew. Several brain storming sessions & shopping sprees later, we had outfits selected for everyone. For my Mom’s birthday, we drove to Joshua Tree for our own family session. With tripod, teepee & bribery candy in hand, we set out on a little family adventure.
Joshua Tree is one of my favorite places to shoot. The light & texture of this natural setting feels so dreamy & other worldly. Now, to give you a little back story, my Dad is a perfectionist. You’ll often find us joking about his uber cleanly OCD tendencies. Call me crazy, but for some reason, I decided that a natural desert area surrounded by dirt & dust would be the best setting to take my Dad to. It took the better part of a day, but the drive was well worth it. I couldn’t be happier with how our session turned out or the memories made. And I was super proud of my Dad for letting go of his perfectionist propensity & allowing the day (& dirt) to go as it may.
